INT. LOS ANGELES BOARD ROOM - DAY
A vast board room with opulent decor. Members from the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) sit on one side, including top executives from Netflix, Paramount, Apple and Amazon. On the opposite side, members of the WGA (Writers Guild of America) negotiating committee.
Negotiations are at a standstill. Tension is palpable.
INT. LOS ANGELES BOARD ROOM - CONTINUOUS
A committee member from WGA, LUCY, stands up.
LUCY
We need a new perspective to break this impasse. Someone who understands both storytelling and production.
AMPTP MEMBER #1
(skeptical)
Who do you suggest?
LUCY
A 1st Assistant Director. They handle the logistics and creativity on a film set. Maybe they can guide us through this.
INT. LOS ANGELES BOARD ROOM - LATER
The door swings open, and JASON, a seasoned 1st Assistant Director, confidently walks in.
JASON
(to AMPTP and WGA)
Alright, folks. Let's start this scene. Action!
AMPTP MEMBER #2
(confused)
Scene?
JASON
(energetic)
Think of this negotiation like a movie. We're creating a story together. We need a script everyone agrees on, right?
WGA MEMBER #1
(nods)
Yes, that's the goal.
JASON
Good. Let's outline our scenes, our acts. What are our main plot points?
Both sides begin brainstorming ideas, jotting them down.
AMPTP MEMBER #3
I think we need more time.
JASON
How about this. Each side gets 30 minutes for each bargaining item. We should have this all figured out by the end of the day.
WGA MEMBER #2
We’ve been stalled on Item #3 for the last month.
JASON
Skip it. If your’e stalled on something you want to come back to it. Its like shooting a scene. If the actors aren’t hitting their lines and the chemistry isn’t there you may want to move on to something else and come back with a fresh perspective.
LUCY
What if the negotiation goes past 6pm?
JASON
Its ok to work more than 8 hours in a day. Most of your colleagues are used to working 12-14 hours on a regular set for months on end. Maybe you could even stay here till midnight on behalf of the thousands of people that are out of work.
LUCY
Great idea. Pizza anyone?
INT. LOS ANGELES BOARD ROOM - LATER
JASON
(organizing)
Great! We have
Act 1 - our demands.
Act 2 - compromises.
Act 3 - resolution.
AMPTP MEMBER #3
(skeptical)
How do we tie it all together?
JASON
With character arcs. Each of you has a role, a character in this story. Let's make sure they all evolve and reach a resolution.
WGA MEMBER #2
(excited)
So, the characters grow through the plot, finding common ground and solutions!
JASON
Exactly! Let's get into character and make this a blockbuster!
INT. LOS ANGELES BOARD ROOM - EVEN LATER
The negotiation dynamic has shifted. Both sides are engaging, building a collaborative storyline.
JASON
(energetic) We're nearing the climax. Let's wrap up Act 3, find that resolution!
The negotiation continues, but now with a newfound energy and collaboration.
FADE OUT.
